| False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) showing a single AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) virus particle (green) budding from the plasma membrane of an infected T4 lymphocyte,a white blood cell. AIDS disables the immune system,rendering the victim liable to a number of fatal infections. The virus (designated HIV - Human Immunodeficiency Virus) enters the T4 cell where its genetic material (in the form of RNA) is translated into DNA,& may subvert the cell's DNA into making copies of the virus,which bud from the cell wall & destroy the host cell.
