John H. Reynolds,British astronomer
John Henry Reynolds (1874-1949),British astronomer. Reynolds was born in Birmingham,England,and made his living as a businessman,devoting his spare time to astronomy. He built a private observatory,supported and visited many overseas observatories,and published many of his own observations. He was heavily involved in administration,serving the Royal Astronomical Society as Treasurer (1929-1935; 1937-1947) and as President (1935-1937). He died whilst attending the Norman Lockyear lecture in Birmingham,on 22 November 1949,seemingly dozing in his chair at the end of the lecture,having posed questions to the lecturer and audience a few minutes previously
