Henry Perigal (1801-1898),British polymath. Perigal worked as a clerk and then a stockbroker. Outside of work,his main interest was attending meetings of scientific societies. He was treasurer of the Royal Meteorological Society for nearly 50 years,a member of the Mathematical Society,and of the Royal Institution,attending the latter for many years but only finally becoming a member at the age of 94. He became a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1850. He held somewhat unorthodox views on astronomy,claiming that the Moon did not rotate
