Newton's signature. Stone from the King's School,Grantham,on which the young pupil Isaac Newton (1642-1727) cut his name,about 1652. Newton was born in Woolsthorpe,Lincolnshire,and was schooled at the grammar school in Grantham. After moving to Cambridge,Newton rarely returned to Woolsthorpe,but did so in 1665-7 to escape the bubonic plague.
