Nostradamus' book. Title page of Paraphrase de C. Galen (1557),a book by the French physician and astrologer Nostradamus (1503-66) on the works of the Roman physician Galen. The page features a woodcut of Nostrodamus viewing the sky and making astrological notes. Born Michel de Notre Dame,Nostradamus rose to prominence as a gifted healer whilst dealing with an outbreak of the plague. He eventually became a personal physician to King Charles IX. In 1555 he published Centuries,a series of astrological predictions from 1550 to the supposed end of the world in 3793. It became popular despite the prophecies within it being so vague as to allow a range of interpretations | |
