Bust of Sir Issac Newton (1642-1727),English mathematician and physicist. In front of the bust,is Newton's own copy of his book "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica". This book,published in Latin in 1687,gave an account of Newton's three Laws of Motion and derived his theory of universal gravitation. To achieve these results,Newton developed both the Binomial Theorem and his 'Method of Fluxions',now known as the Calculus. This bust is in the library of Trinity College at Cambridge University,where Newton was Lucasian Professor of Mathematics and where he spent most of his academic life | |
