Albert Marth (1828-1897),German astronomer. Marth came to England from Germany in 1853,to carry out astronomical observations for his patron George Bishop. He was Observer at the University of Durham (1855-1863). He also worked with William Lassell in Malta,discovering hundreds of 'nebulae' (now known to be galaxies). He also worked at the Markree Observatory in Ireland. Craters on the Moon and Mars are named in his honour. Photographed in 1870 | |
