Marconi's transatlantic transmitter. Guglielmo Marconi's transatlantic radio transmitter at Poldhu,Cornwall,England. It was from here,in 1901,that the first ever transatlantic radio signal, was transmitted. The signal was received by Marconi himself using a kite antenna,at Saint John's,Newfoundland,Canada. His technology was soon adopted by the British and Italian navies. By 1907,a transatlantic wireless telegraph for public use was established using Marconi's ideas. In 1909,Marconi (1874-1937) won the Nobel physics prize. He later developed short-wave radio as a means for secret communication | |
