Hubert Latham,French aviator
Hubert Latham (1883-1912),French aviator,in an aeroplane. Latham flew the Antoinette VII monoplane (from 1909),and attempted to fly across the English Channel. He also set several new altitude records. He was the first person to fly over a city (Berlin) in a plane,an action that drew much criticism at the time on safety grounds. One of his pupils was the famed female aviator Marie Marvingt. In 1910,Latham made a flight over Baltimore,USA,making a paid detour to fly past the house of a wealthy invalid.
