Eugene Lauste. Portrait of the Frenchman Eugene Augustin Lauste (1857-1935),with one of his inventions,the first cinema sound system. Lauste had filed 50 patents by the time he was aged 22. In 1887 he began to work for the American inventor Thomas Edison and was involved in the development of early motion pictures. He left Edison in 1892 but continued research independently,devising improvements to film projection systems.
