George Alexander Kelly (1905-1967),US psychologist. Kelly is best known for his 1955 work The Psychology of Personal Constructs, which holds that humans attempt to build theories so that they can better anticipate events. The theories are based on a system of constructs,in which the mind ascribes to every person, object or event a position on a scale ranging from one characteristic to its opposite. For example,a person may be happy or sad or somewhere in between. In Kelly's Repertory Grid technique, questions are asked about the relationship between two or more constructs, allowing the position on the scale of even unconscious constructs to be determined | |
