Dr Hefin Jones, ecologist and leader of the Ecotron project. The Ecotron project aims to study the effects of species diversity and climate change on simple ecosystems. Each ecosystem contains a small number of plant and insect species, and is enclosed in a 4 square metre sealed chamber. The amount of light and water fed to each ecosystem is controlled, and samples of the air in the chamber are analysed for carbon dioxide and oxygen. Ecotron is the main experimental facility of the NERC Centre for Population Biology (CPB),at Imperial College,Silwood Park,Berkshire. Photographed in 1994 | |
