Andre Jacques Garnerin (1769-1823),French balloonist and parachutist. Ballooning equipment and flags are seen around the portrait,and a balloon and clouds are seen in the background. Sketch made by Edward Hawke-Locker during their aerial voyage made on 5 July 1802. Garnerin is famous for making the world's first parachute descent,in Mousseuax Park,Paris,France,on 22 October 1797. The parachute supported a basket,and was attached to a balloon. Garnerin released himself from the balloon at a height of about 1000 metres,and the basket descended safely to the ground below the parachute
