Anthony Fokker (1890-1939),Dutch aviator. Fokker's first aircraft was destroyed in 1910 when someone else crashed it into a tree. He built another one and proceeded to gain his pilot's licence soon afterwards. He then moved to Germany and founded an aircraft production company. The company was taken over by the Germans when World War I started, and Fokker stayed and designed many of the planes used by Germany in that war. After the war,Fokker continued his aircraft production in the Netherlands, and then,in 1922,in the USA. He died following complications after surgery. Photograph from the Bain News Service | |
