Alexander Fleming,Scottish bacteriologist and discoverer of penicillin (born 6 August 1881,died 11 March 1955). He is seen in his laboratory at St Mary's Hospital,Paddington,London,in 1909. It was in this laboratory that he discovered in 1928 that secretions from a fungus called Penicillium notatum destroyed colonies of the bacterium Staphylococcus sp.
