Albert Einstein and his wife,Elsa,arriving in San Diego,USA,on New Year's Eve 1930. Einstein was one of the greatest theoretical physicists in history. In 1905,whilst a patent clerk,he published 3 papers that would lead to his 1921 Nobel Prize: calcula- tions on Brownian motion,the photoelectric effect and special relativity. In 1915 he published his General Theory of Relativity,explaining gravity as a distortion of space-time by a mass. In 1933 he moved to America,working on the Manhattan Project in WW2.
