John Daugman. Portrait of Dr John Daugman (born 1954),British inventor of the IriScan computer recognition system. IriScan identifies people by features in the iris of their eye,& was developed by Daugman at Cambridge University,Britain. Each person's iris is as individual as their finger- print, but with 266 identifiable features is much more detailed. Its appearance does not change dur- ing a person's life. The iris moves continuously, making it impossible to forge one with a replica glass eye. An iris is scanned as the person stands about 20 centimetres in front of a video camera for a few seconds. A computer compares the iris' features to stored data in under 3 seconds | |
