| Charles Dodgson or Lewis Carroll. Portrait of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-98),British mathe- matician and amateur photographer better known as the author Lewis Carroll. An academic staff member of Oxford University from 1855,Dodgson wrote sev- eral mathematical treatises,including Euclid and his Modern Rivals. In 1865 he published his first work of fiction,Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,after which Dodgson began a prolific career as a novelist. He also achieved fame as an early photo- grapher,taking portraits of famous personalities. He also took pictures of young girls,including some posing naked.
