Sir Richard Doll (1912-2005),British physiologist. Doll was trained in medicine at St.Thomas' Hospital Medical School,London. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Doll's research work has been in the aetiology of cancer,specifically lung cancer and leukaemia. Doll was the first to prove a link between smoking and lung cancer. Since 1983,Doll has worked as a consultant at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Cancer Studies Unit in Oxford. Photographed in 1993 | |
