The Polish-French physicist and chemist Marie Curie,1867-1934. Marie Curie grew up in Poland and in 1891 went to study physics at the University of Sorbonne in Paris. In 1895 she married the French physicist Pierre Curie. She was a remarkably skilful radiochemist and together with her husband did pioneer studies on radioactivity,discovering the radioactive elements polonium and radium. In 1903 she was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics together with her husband and Henri Becquerel and in 1911 a second Nobel Prize for chemistry.
