Professor Mike Brady, head of Mirada Solutions and developer of eDiamond,a network of computers that allows doctors easy access to thousands of mammograms (breast X-rays). The project also standardizes scans of mammograms, making it easier to compare them. This allows quicker and easier diagnosis of any abnormalities the mammograms may show. Faster and more accurate diagnosis of breast cancer allows treatment to begin earlier, which dramatically increases the chances of curing the disease. The project harnesses the power of a supercomputer network called The Grid. It has been set up in collaboration with IBM and the British government. Photographed in 2003 | |
