A page from Alexander Graham Bell's notebook,the Scottish-American inventor of the telephone who was born in 1847 and died in 1922. This entry,dated 10 March 1876,describes his first successful experiment with his new invention,the 'telephone'. The diagram shows the construction of the transmitter,linked to a battery and the receiver solenoid 'S'. The first message passed on the equipment was to his assistant - it was "Mr. Watson,come here,I want to see you. " Bell went on to found the world's first telephone company,now known as AT&T.
