John Aubrey (1626-97),English archaeologist,biographer and a founder of the Royal Society. Aubrey made the first scientific study of Stonehenge,England,and proposed the idea that it had been a 'Druid temple',he also rediscovered the stone circle at Avebury. Aubrey studied the natural history of Wiltshire and was the first person to propose making a geological map,though he himself never made one.
