Asclepius' statue. Asclepius,who was known as Aesculapius or Veiovis to the Romans,was the Greek god of medicine. The son of Apollo,he was taught surgery and the use of drugs by Chiron the centaur (a mythical beast that was part human and part horse). Asclepius was killed by a thunderbolt from Zeus (leader of the gods) for violating the natural order,when he brought the dead back to life. Photographed in Ephidaurus,Greece,were a cult celebrating Asclepius was setup in the 6th century BC.
