L. Auenbrugger von Auenbrugg. Portrait of Leopold Auenbrugger von Auenbrugg (1722-1809),Austrian physician and the first to use chest percussion for disease diagnosis. After graduating in medicine,Auenbrugger worked at Vienna's Spanish Hospital, where he became chief physician. During his work he noticed that the note made by tapping the chest with fingers differed between healthy and diseased patients. Auenbrugger used this method for diagnosis and published his findings in Inventum novum in 1761. The method was not applied widely until a French translation by Jean Corvisart in 1808. The method was improved by Corvisart and Skoda and is still used today | |
