Planning the 1836 balloon expedition. Consultation prior to a balloon voyage from London,England,to Weilburg,Nassau,Germany. The voyage took place overnight from 7-8 November 1836,and set a record distance for a balloon flight. It covered 722 kilometres in 18 hours. The balloon,the Royal Vauxhall,is seen in the background. From left to right are: W. Prideaux,J. Hollins,W. M. James,Robert Hollond,Charles Green,and Thomas Monck Mason. Hollond was a sponsor of the flight,which was flown by him,the balloonist Green,and Monck Mason,from the Vauxhall Gardens,London,England. Painting by J. Hollins. Engraving by J. H. Robinson.
