German-Swiss-American physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955) with two American physicists Albert Abraham Michelson (right) and Robert Andrews Millikan. All were awarded Nobel Prizes for Physics. Einstein received the Nobel Prize in 1921 for his theory of the photoelectric effect but his main achieve- ment was the theory of general relativity. Michel- son (1852-1931) was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1907 for his experiments aimed at the measurement of the speed of light. Millikan (1868-1953) won the Nobel Prize in 1923.
