Forensic examination of soil particles. Forensic officer examining soil samples taken from a suspect using a light microscope. An initial analysis of particles helps identify the composition of the particles. A more detailed analysis can be done using DNA sequencing or x-ray diffraction. The information obtained from the analysis can be compared to a database and provide a geographical location to the source of the soil. This information can be used as evidence linking the suspect to the scene of the crime. Photographed at the Macaulay Institute,UK | |
