Fire detector research. Researcher shining an infrared light onto a bank of fire detectors to ensure they are not set off. Real fires are chaotic and unpredictable systems, and are difficult to model. New detection systems use their random fluctuations to separate dangerous fires from simple lights,a rise in temperature (as here) and even candles. They measure temperature variations and smoke density and use "fuzzy logic" to distinguish real fires, greatly reducing false alarms. These sensors have been used in the Cerberus AlgoRex system from Siemens AG,based in Switzerland | |
