Scanning electron micrograph of a cotton & Lycra mixed fabric. The cotton forms most of the fabric seen here, including the chain-like vertical loops and half of the horizontal fibres. The Lycra is the very fine, striated fibre which alternates between the horizontal lines of cotton. Lycra is a synthetic elastane fibre produced by DuPont. Its highly elastic qualities are used in conjunction with other fibres to create clothes which fit closely to the body. The fabric seen here comes from a pair of leggings.
