Golgi apparatus. Coloured high resolution scanning electron micrograph of the Golgi apparatus of an olfactory bulb cell. The Golgi apparatus consists of a stack of flattened interconnecting membranous sacs (L-shaped at centre). It is the site in the cell of synthesis of biochemicals. The biochemicals are packaged into swellings at the margins of the sacs which become pinched off as vesicles (pink and purple spheres). The Golgi apparatus also collects proteins and lipids made by endoplasmic reticulum (not seen) | |
