MODEL RELEASED. Proteomics research. Researcher selecting and preparing parasitic nematode worms for protein analysis. Studying the structure and function of proteins (proteomics) improves understanding of how an organism works. The genome (genetic map) of several nematode worms has been completed. This contains the information that determines what proteins an organism makes, but not how they interact in the living organism. Finding key proteins in a parasite can lead to new treatments for infestations, and also provides more information on how the parasite survives in the hostile environment of its host's body.
