Ecotron. View of a greenhouse used to support the Ecotron project by culturing specific plants and insects. The aim of the Ecotron project is to study the effect of species diversity and changing climate on simple ecosystems. Each experiment occupies a 4 square metre sealed chamber, and contains a small number of plant and insect species. Researchers control the amount of light and water fed into the model ecosystem, and may analyse the air in the chamber and corridor for gases such as carbon dioxide and oxygen. Plants and insects used in the experiments are reared in similar controlled conditions | |
