This drug is being produced in the laboratories of Alpha-Beta Tech- nology,USA. Betafectin is the first genetically engineered carbohydrate drug,for use against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The drug is based on a carbohydrate found in yeast cell walls. The engineered yeast multiplies in the fermentation unit. Betafectin is thought to mimic a bacterial attack in the body.
