Temple at Edfu,Egypt. This temple dates from the Ptolemaic period of Ancient Egypt,and was built between 237 and 57 BC. It was dedicated to the Ancient Egyptian god Horus. The large entrance (centre) is through a structure called a pylon. The pylon is 36 metres high and covered in massive carvings. The two falcon statues either side of the entrance represent Horus and are over 2 metres tall. Horus is also depicted in the carvings as a falcon-headed pharaoh,wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. There is a courtyard inside the temple,and an inner sanctuary.
