Statue of Horus,Ancient Egyptian god,at the temple dedicated to him at Edfu,Egypt. Horus was most often represented as a falcon. The statue is over 2 metres tall. It is one of a pair guarding the entrance into the inner courtyard through a structure known as a pylon. Carvings can be seen in the surface of the pylon behind the statue. The carving to the right of the statue shows Horus as a falcon-headed pharaoh,wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. The pylon is made of sandstone,while the statue is carved from granite. The temple at Edfu dates from the Ptolemaic period,and was built between 237 and 57 BC | |
