The Great Pyramid. Historical engraving of the Great Pyramid (second from right) at Giza,Egypt. This was built around 2800 BC as a monument to King Cheops. It consists of 2.3 million stone blocks and has a vertical height of 146 metres. It has been claimed that the pyramids were astronomical observatories as their sides accurately align with the points of the compass. It is now thought that this geometry was to help the dead King navigate to his star. Giza's pyramids are the only one of the seven wonders of the ancient world still intact | |
