Wayland's Smithy,Oxfordshire,UK. This is the site of a Neolithic chamber tomb and a long barrow tomb. Excavations between 1962 and 1963 proved they were built in different time periods. A timber oval chamber was built around 3700 BC followed by a stone long barrow chamber built around 3400 BC. Excavations in 1919 found the remains of 14 individuals in the timber chamber,and 18 skeletons,including one of a child,in the long barrow. Wayland's Smithy was named by Saxon settlers who thought the tomb was the work of one of their Gods,Wayland the Smith
