Effects of acid rain & air pollution on historic buildings. Replacement statues at the Church of St Peter & St Paul,Cracow,Poland. The church was built in the baroque style in the early 17th century. These replicas were installed in 1988. Elsewhere, eroded stone is treated with a mixture of sand & cement with a clear acrylic emulsion for exterior protection. Restoration work performed in the 1950's is currently (1990) requiring more attention. Cracow contains a wealth of historic buildings & is deemed a World Heritage Site. Whilst 80 buildings have been restored to date, some 1700 need urgent attention | |
