Damage caused by acid rain & air pollution in general to this statue on the Church of St Peter & St Paul,Cracow,Poland. The church was built in the baroque style in the early 17th century. In contrast to the blackened, eroded statue, some of the surrounding,honey-coloured stonework has been cleaned, with evidence of restoration work. In 1988,some of the worst-affected statues were replaced by replicas. Restoration work performed in the 1950's is currently (1990) requiring more attention. Cracow contains a wealth of historic buildings & is deemed a World Heritage Site. Whilst 80 buildings have been restored to date, some 1700 need urgent attention | |
