Temperate rainforest. View of a vegetation near a stream in a North American temperate rainforest, showing the tree trunks and branches covered with trailing clubmosses. Temperate rainforest occurs in regions with a mild coastal climate, high rain- fall, and where temperatures rarely drop below freezing or rise above 27 Celsius. Sitka Spruce,Maple & Western Hemlock trees thrive in North American temperate rainforest,as do numerous other plants and abundant wildlife. The clubmosses growing on the trees seen here are epiphytes (aerial plants) which can make their own nutrients and do not parasitize the trees.
