Cloud forest on the sides of the Rio Mazan Valley,Ecuador,at the edge of the tree line (3400 metres high). Cloud forest grows at high altitudes where temperatures are low and rising winds bring near continuous precipitation or mists throughout the year. At Mazan the mean annual temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius. The moisture encourages a rich epiphyte flora of orchids and bromeliads to develop in the forest canopy | |
