Fjord. This narrow inlet of the sea was formed when a valley carved by a moving glacier flooded. A meltwater river (narrow grey line, lower frame),formed from a melting glacier,is flowing into the fjord. An alluvial fan (white, lower right) has formed where the river emerges. This fan-shaped mass of material forms as sediments in the meltwater are deposited. This is Tyrolerfjord in North East Greenland National Park,Greenland | |
