Geothermal pool,New Zealand. Geothermal pools form in areas where volcanic activity causes hot water to rise up from beneath the Earth's surface. The hot water is often coloured due to minerals dissolved in it. This is Lake Ngakoro,a volcanic crater lake. Water flows into the lake from nearby geothermal pools, colouring the lake green with arsenic minerals. The lake also contains sulphuric acid. This lake is part of the geothermal area of Waiotapu,25 kilometres south of Rotorua,on New Zealand's North Island | |
