Old Faithful geyser erupting at night, illuminated by moonlight and framed by the bright stars of The Plough, part of the Ursa Major constellation. Geysers are water-filled fissures in rock that is heated geothermally. The water is heated to over boiling point, but prevented from boiling by the high pressure. The heat causes the water to expand, and when it spills over the lip of the fissure the pressure drops sharply, causing spontaneous boiling and eruption.
