Slot canyon with sunlight streaming through into the interior. Slot canyons are formed by flash flood water from occasional thunderstorms in arid areas. The water exploits cracks in the sandstone, forming deep canyons over thousands of years. The abrasive power of the water comes from the sand particles it carries. Localised turbulence in the water flow cuts arches and holes into the canyon. Photographed in Arizona,USA | |
