A lizard crawling over a natural bridge formed inside a 'slot canyon'. Slot canyons are formed when water from seasonal flash floods rushes through cracks in sandstone. Over about 10,000 years, the water erodes the sandstone to form the canyons seen today. Some turbulent flow patterns may allow a bridge such as this to be formed. The erosive quality of the water is enhanced by carrying tiny particles of sand with it. This slot canyon is near Lake Powell,Arizona USA | |
