Landscape scarred by a network of gullies, watercourses which only carry streams at times of rain. They result from soil erosion aggravated by the destruction of vegetation through the overgrazing of sheep and rabbits earlier this century. This region, the Mungo National Park in Australia,is now a World Heritage Area for it's cultural and natural significance. It was previously the site of a large lake but has been dry for more than 10,000 years now. Many fossils of extinct animals have been found here as have aboriginal remains dating back more than 30,000 years | |
