Pterosaur (Quetzalcoatlus sp.) flying over water, artwork. Pterosaurs, also known as pterodactyls, are an extinct group of flying reptiles that were the first vertebrates to evolve powered flight. Quetzalcoatlus is one of the largest pterosaur species ever discovered. It lived during the Late Cretaceous,84-65 million years ago. It had an estimated wingspan of up to 12 metres,a bony head crest,a long neck and a toothless jaw. Quetzalcoatlus fossils have been found in river sediment deposits, suggesting that it was not a coastal species, unlike most other pterosaur species. Fossil trackways of pterosaurs reveal that they were able to walk on the ground by using all four limbs | |
