Ichthyosaur fossil cleaning. View of a palaeontologist cleaning a large fossil of an Ichthyosaur at a museum. Ichthyosaurs were large, carnivorous marine reptiles which somewhat resembled a dolphin or porpoise. The head of this ichthyosaur is at lower centre, with its backbone running up towards the palaeontologist's arm. They are thought to have been fast swimmers which mainly fed on the fish of the time.
